There exists a psychological phenomenon in which perfectly sane people, with no desire to die, find themselves faced with a steep cliff and experience a strong desire to leap. To jump from their safe vantage point into the unknown. This phenomenon is so common in fact, that the french have a term for it: L’appel du Vide – Call of the Void.

Guest Post: The Cumbria Way
Note from Liz: Today, while I frantically prepare for my upcoming RTW trip, I have a guest post from my friend Caroline about her trip hiking in the UK’s Lake District. You can check out more of Caroline’s guest posts here and here. My brother Andrew, my sister-in-law Annie, and I decided to hike the Cumbria Way in June. What’s the Cumbria Way, you say? Guest Blogger: Kenya Safari
My friend, Caroline, recently went on a volunteer trip to Kenya. During her visit she had the opportunity to participate in a wildlife safari. I asked her to share with us some of her photos and experiences: Going on safari in the Masai Mara Game Reserve in southern Kenya felt like stepping back in time 100 years. It started on the island of Murano. My flatmate Kimberly and I had spent a lovely morning touring the glass bead-making shops on the island and we were now headed back to the docks to go back to the main part of Venice. Venice is famous for its glass industry but the operations themselves were moved to the island of Murano in the 13th century to prevent a … Read More

Guest Blogger: Inspired. And Full of Booz: A Summer of Cooking in Europe
This is guest post by Tom Madrecki based on his experience interning at Noma and Le Chateaubriand. I was asked to write a post about the four months I spent last year cooking across Europe, in two of the world’s top 10 restaurants – Noma in Copenhagen and Le Chateaubriand in Paris. This isn’t (exactly) that post. For one, tragic as it is, the result of cooking in Europe isn’t what you might think. It is hardly a ticket to extensive travel and sightseeing, or to day-tripping across the French and Danish landscape in pursuit of long forgotten castles and … Read More
